Calling the game-winning home run
After finishing the eighth inning, Hunter Brown said he was in the dugout when Yordan Alvarez connected on his walk-off, three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth to give the Astros the 8-7 come-from-behind win.
Brown said he was standing beside Houston outfielder Chas McCormick in the dugout when Alvarez stepped into the plate for what would be a history-making at-bat. With his homer, Alvarez became only the fourth player in MLB history to hit a postseason walk-off home run with his team trailing..
“Right before that (home run), like right after Peña got the hit, Chas said to me, like, ‘Oh, back side homer in the Crawford Box would be something here, right?’ So he didn’t quite go in the Crawford Boxes, but we’ll definitely take the pull-side homer for a walk-off,” Brown smiled. “It was unbelievable. It was just a jaw dropping moment.”
McCormick started in center field for the Astros on Tuesday, going 1-for-2 and scoring a run. Jake Meyers will get the nod in center field against Seattle’s Luis Castillo on Thursday, continuing Dusty Baker’s mix-and-match approach to try to find some consistency in center field.
