8. Alexander Mattison, Minnesota Vikings

Last week, Alexander Mattison played a season-high 34 snaps, which was a close second to Dalvin Cook’s 45. Whether this was due to Cook’s nagging shoulder injury, or the Vikings simply wanting to get Mattison more involved is unknown, but Cook’s injury tendencies are hard to ignore. This could be the team trying to spell Cook more often.

Mattison is a talented runner when given opportunities. This week against Miami, Mattison has a chance to continue playing more of a change-of-pace role as opposed to strictly a backup. If so, he’s a sneaky DFS play.

7. Joshua Kelley, Los Angeles Chargers

Last week, I pegged Sony Michel as the sleeper and change-of-pace alternative to Austin Ekeler. I was wrong. Joshua Kelley had 10 carries (12 overall touches) and a touchdown, looking like the clear No. 2 option to Ekeler. Fantasy managers have been trying to figure out who would play that role between Kelley, Michel, and rookie Isaiah Spiller. For now, Kelley has the job.

The 12 touches were surprisingly high for an Ekeler backup, but perhaps this is what the Chargers have always envisioned and they just haven’t had the guy to do it. If Kelley can seize this role, and receive 10-plus touches a game, he could turn into a valuable fantasy asset.
