Projected AP Top 25 college football rankings after Week 7: No. 8-7

8. Ole Miss Rebels

Despite the fact that Auburn cut the game to one possession on multiple occasions after Ole Miss jumped out to a 21-0 lead early in the second quarter, this game never really felt as if it was in doubt. Lane Kiffin had the offense absolutely humming behind Zach Evans and Jaxson Dart and was seemingly just asserting his will whenever they wanted to.

If there is a concern, the Ole Miss defense was this team’s calling card early in the season and they haven’t looked that same part over the past two weeks. Perhaps that was taking the likes of Vandy and Auburn too lightly but it’s something to look for moving forward. Even still, the Rebs move forward without a loss against them yet, slipping under the radar and ready to make some waves if they keep this run up.

7. TCU Horned Frogs

Entering the fourth quarter, it seemed as if the dream run that TCU has been on under new head coach Sonny Dykes to start this season was coming to an end. The Horned Frogs were down by 14 points to another Big 12 unbeaten in Oklahoma State and had been outplayed for the previous 45 minutes. But games last 60 minutes for a reason and, behind Max Duggan and a strong overall effort, the Horned Frogs forced overtime with a late touchdown.

Even better, TCU ultimately prevailed by forcing a field goal in the second overtime and then scoring on a 2-yard Kendre Miller touchdown to secure the victory and move to 6-0 on the season. As of right now, the Horned Frogs not only look like unlikely favorites to win the conference but also like a potential Playoff dark horse.
