2. Top Fantasy Football Pickups For Week 7 – Pittsburgh Steelers WR Chase Claypool

It is admittedly not fun to be invested in the Pittsburgh passing game this season. The Steelers have struggled to move the ball through the air regardless of whether Mitchell Trubisky or Kenny Pickett is under center but the pass catchers are immensely talented.

The breakout Steeler of the week was Chase Claypool, who caught all seven of his targets for 96 yards and found the end zone for the first time in Pittsburgh’s 20-18 upset over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The targets have been there consistently for Claypool, who has gotten at least six per game outside of a two-target donut against the New York Jets in Week 4, so it is just a matter of how effective Pittsburgh’s quarterback of the moment is.

This performance was especially effective for Claypool since he got into a good rhythm with both quarterbacks after Trubisky took over for an injured Pickett, who suffered a concussion late in the game. Claypool does have healthy competition for targets with Diontae Johnson and George Pickens but his workload does indicate that the Steelers have a defined role for him in their game plans.

There is an opportunity to get in on Claypool, who is rostered in 41 percent of Yahoo leagues, if you need help at receiver with the byes starting to kick in. Claypool is a bit of a gamble as your WR3 but the targets offer a solid PPR floor if the Steelers can offer him competent quarterback play, which is far from a guarantee.
