2. What is Jeremy Sochan?

Sochan missed all of Summer League due to injury but recovered in time to be a member of the team’s rotation during the preseason. It’s safe to assume he’ll continue to be a key cog off of Popovich’s bench once the regular season tips off.

The question then becomes just what sort of weapon Sochan can be as an NBA player. He’s got good size at 6-foot-9 and already possesses NBA-quality strength. The Spurs drafted him to be a quality option on the wing and he looks to have the versatility to be just that.

If Sochan proves he can initiate quality offense then his ceiling as a pro rises dramatically. It’s too soon to ask him to do that in primary actions as a rookie, but the Spurs do need to give him some reps as a secondary creator on the weak side. Combine that with a willingness to shoot the ball from three and it’s easy to get excited about Sochan’s long-term potential.

The Spurs will be pleased if Sochan profiles as a high-quality starter on the wing after his rookie season, but he can dramatically improve the trajectory of the franchise if he flashes star potential. It’s an issue that San Antonio fans need to watch closely all season long.
