NBA Season Preview 2022-23: One reason to watch each and every team
By Luke Anton
San Antonio Spurs: Jeremy Sochan’s hair
It’s impossible not to think of Dennis Rodman when Jeremy Sochan is rocking the same No. 10 on the Spurs and has the same crazy-colored hair. They even have a similar game. Sochan is a high-energy and high-intensity player known for his defensive versatility and rebounding prowess.
Also, shoutout to Keldon Johnson and Devin Vassell, two vastly underrated power dunkers.
Houston Rockets: Jalen Green power dunks
Who is the best power dunker in the game? If it’s not Ja Morant, then it might be Jalen Green. It’s probably Ja, but Green is a worthy runner-up. He is an electrifying player with magnificent speed and superb bounce.
Whether it’s in the open court on a fast break or flying downhill straight at Jakob Poeltl, Green is never afraid to crank back and detonate a sledgehammer at the rim. His step-back 3s are becoming constant enjoyment as well.
New Orleans Pelicans: The Return of Zanos
This is an easy one. NBA fans missed out on seeing Zion Williamson play basketball all of last season. But now he’s back! And he really does look like he’s in the best shape of his life.
Zion is a freight train in transition and in the halfcourt. He provides earth-shaking dunks, and he’ll soar in for jaw-dropping blocks. He really doesn’t get enough credit for his offensive versatility. Point Zion is a mighty weapon that Willie Green can pull out of his back pocket at a moment’s notice.
Dallas Mavericks: LukaMagic
LukaMagic is realer than real.
Luka Doncic sees plays develop in slow motion, and he sets up his teammates with enthrallingly perfect, pinpoint passes. The more open you are, the easier the catch-and-shoot 3 is, and Luka gets you wide-open looks.
He plays at his own rhythm, and he has impeccable footwork. Luka’s step-back 3s are poetry in motion. Slow motion. You know it’s coming. And he still delivers.
Memphis Grizzlies: Highlight factory Ja Morant
The fearless Ja Morant, the ultimate slasher of a point guard with spring-loaded gravity-defying hops. Ja has a different, higher gear than almost everybody else. And what really sets him apart is his unwavering confidence and swaggering bravado.
It’s seriously getting to the point that he could have his own top-10 plays on a nightly basis.
