3. Top Fantasy Football Pickups For Week 8 — Carolina Panthers RB Chuba Hubbard

The stunning trade of Christian McCaffrey to the San Francisco 49ers created a vacuum atop the depth chart in Carolina at running back. While most expected D’Onta Foreman to fill it, the majority of the running back snaps actually went to backfield mate Chuba Hubbard.

Hubbard served as the primary backup to McCaffrey last season and did well with his opportunities on Sunday, rushing nine times for 63 yards and a touchdown in the Panthers’ upset win over the Buccaneers. Carolina also targeted Hubbard three times in the passing game and he caught two passes for ten yards.

The snap count was about 60/40 in favor of Hubbard, who missed the end of the game with a minor ankle injury. Foreman did well with his work, carrying 15 times for 118 yards and a touchdown, so this backfield committee could remain in place if Hubbard’s ankle injury isn’t serious.

Both backs are relatively available in Yahoo leagues, with Hubbard rostered in 36 percent of leagues while Foreman is rostered in 49 percent, but the split should make both playable flex options going forward. Carolina plays the Atlanta Falcons in two of their next three games, which should make either back a good flex play.
