Fantasy football waiver wire replacements for Ja’Marr Chase: 4. Michael Gallup, Dallas Cowboys

Gallup put a doughnut on the stat sheet in Week 7 against the Detroit Lions, with only two targets going his way in Dak Prescott’s return to action as Dallas didn’t throw the ball much. But his playing time has been rising since coming back in Week 4 from a torn ACL late last season, and it’s fair to say he’s still literally getting his legs back under him.

A Week 8 matchup against the Chicago Bears is not great for Gallup, beyond an angle the Bears have occasionally been susceptible to the deep ball. Then Dallas has a bye in Week 9.

So Gallup is more of a dart throw WR3/WR4 for Week 8, with better days seemingly ahead after a bye with more time to get to full strength. Prescott knocking off more rust coming off thumb surgery will of course be helpful too, and the two have history of solid rapport.

Gallup is available in half of ESPN and Yahoo! leagues. The hesitancy to run out and add him as a plug-and-play this week is understandable, and a Week 9 bye has to be kept in mind. But even just to stash for the stretch run, there’s sneaky waiver wire appeal here to bolster a fantasy roster that will be Chase-less for a little while.
