Scouting Report. 2. player. Trevor Lawrence. 52. Pick Analysis. QB. 18/31, 133 yds, 1 TD, 2 INT

There hasn’t been a more hyped quarterback prospect to enter the NFL in the past five years than Lawrence, who struggled through a tough rookie year for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Former head coach Urban Meyer took the blame for screwing up Lawrence’s development but things haven’t gotten much better under Doug Pederson, who has a Super Bowl ring on his resume.

Lawrence was pitiful in Jacksonville’s 21-17 loss to the Denver Broncos in London, completing 18-of-31 passes for 133 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. The picks were very costly for Lawrence, who tossed one on first and goal at Denver’s one yard line and the other when Jacksonville was trying to win the game on their final drive.

Those kinds of mistakes have been far too common for Lawrence, who has thrown five picks in Jacksonville’s past five games. The Jaguars have lost all five of those games as Lawrence has failed to make the kind of impact a player who was called the best quarterback prospect since Andrew Luck should.

There is no chance that Lawrence will actually be benched since Jacksonville is 2-6 and will miss the playoffs for the fifth straight year. There is simply too much riding on Lawrence’s development to expect the Jaguars to bench him but they will need to see some serious progression from the top pick in the 2021 draft if they hope to turn things around in the future.
