Trea Turner rumors: Do Braves want revenge?

On the surface, this seems like a stretch, but bare with me. What’s the difference between this year’s Braves team and last year’s? That answer is obvious — the 2021 Atlanta squad won the World Series, while this year didn’t go as planned. This year’s team was also lacking a critical clubhouse leader in Freddie Freeman.

As much as Braves fans have heard enough about the Freeman saga, his impact on the organization went beyond his play on the field. Freeman was the face of the franchise, and a critical locker room presence. He was the bridge meant to take a previous era of Atlanta baseball to the next generation, led by the likes of Ronald Acuña and Ozzie Albies.

Instead, Freeman was forced to leave before he should have. There are plenty of parties to blame for that, and I won’t get caught in the weeds. It was clear in Freeman’s return to Atlanta just how emotional he was about this place, this team and this organization. The Braves were not the same once he left.

Signing Turner will not undo the mistakes of the past, but perhaps it will even the score — and give the Braves the best lineup in baseball in the process.
