Brandin Cooks and 2 most surprising players who weren’t moved at NFL trade deadline
The most surprising players not to be dealt at NFL trade deadline: 1. Austin Hooper
Although the Tennessee Titans are at the top of the AFC South with a 5-2 record, they were expected to make one notable subtraction to their roster.
Due to their strong depth at the tight end position, Austin Hooper was floating around the rumor mill. The 28-year-old hasn’t been the best fit in Tennessee this season, either, so a move seemed inevitable. Instead, he is now going to stay with the team in a rather surprising turn of events.
The Titans could have used Hooper as a trading piece to help improve their roster elsewhere to gear up for their playoff run. As stated above, they have plenty of tight end talent, and it has been impacting Hooper’s playing time. Furthermore, with Hooper’s pending unrestricted free agent (UFA) status, there were surely teams who pursued him as a rental candidate.
Nevertheless, we will have to wait and see if Hooper can heat things up for the Titans from here. In seven games, which include zero starts, he has zero touchdowns, 10 receptions, and 116 receiving yards on the year. Here’s to hoping he receives more chances from here or there was truly no purpose for the Titans to keep him around.
