3. Dak Prescott (2016)

If you haven’t realized it yet, the 2016 draft was a memorable one for the Cowboys. Three of their first four picks have made Pro Bowls, and two of them have become anchors to the team. While you could argue that Elliott has been a more productive player since 2016 than Dak Prescott, the fact that the Cowboys drafted a two-time Pro Bowler out of the 4th round speaks to the quality of the organization’s scouts and talent evaluators.

Dak Prescott had a strong junior season at Mississippi State, bringing his talent onto the national scene. He improved his senior season, throwing 29 TDs and 5 interceptions. Though not expected to be a top draft pick, the Cowboys selected Prescott 135th overall, hoping he’d develop behind Tony Romo. Prescott hit the big time sooner than expected when Romo went down with an injury in the preseason. The rest is history. Dak has made two Pro Bowls, and if he weren’t so injury-prone himself, he’d perennially be considered among the top QBs in the league. Nevertheless, Prescott remains a vital part of the Cowboys’ offense and a steal of a draft pick.
