1. Zack Martin (2014)

Though Micah Parsons could potentially become one of the best defensive players in modern NFL history, to make the top of this list requires a track record. The Dallas Cowboys have had quite a bit of success in the draft, and there’s perhaps no better example than in taking Zack Martin 16th overall in 2014. The OG from Notre Dame was expected to make an immediate impact wherever he went, but few could’ve expected the success he’s had in Dallas.

Martin is a seven-time Pro Bowler (five-time first-team All Pro, two-time second-team All Pro). What’s more, in one of the most grueling positions in the league, Martin has stayed mostly healthy throughout his career. It could (and should) be argued that much of the success other players on this list have had (Elliott and Prescott in particular) can be attributed to the protection Martin has provided. Choosing an OG is rarely the flashiest draft pick a team can make, but when you find an offensive centerpiece to a team like Martin, it should always be a no-brainer.
