Projected College Football Playoff rankings after Week 10: No. 20-19

20. Kansas State Wildcats

Just when you think that you have a read on Kansas State and that they might be hitting their stride after shutting out Oklahoma State, it turns out the Cowboys are just frauds (or are just super injured) and that would be why the Wildcats got beaten by Texas in Manhattan on Saturday night. And really, the 34-27 final score makes it look even better than it was for K-State.

Going into halftime, the Wildcats were down 31-10 after the Longhorns just dominated the first half. Credit does go to Kansas State for clawing back and making it a little dicier, but that big of a hole is hard to jump out of. Now this is a three-loss team but one with enough quality wins and, really, very few bad losses should still be considered a Top 20 team.

19. UCF Knights

I’m not entirely sure whether or not UCF going on the road and winning against Memphis while having to start a backup quarterback is more about how good overall the Knights are even without John Rhys Plumlee or if it’s about how shockingly mediocre the Tigers are. Regardless, taking the 35-28 win out of Memphis is a strong statement for Gus Malzahn’s team with its current health status.

UCF has truly been playing good football for two months now aside from the odd loss to East Carolina two weeks ago. And they proved on Saturday that they have the depth at the most important position on the field to keep that up. Now the Knights will get the opportunity to make a real statement as they stay on the road and travel to one-loss Tulane for a huge showdown that will determine a lot in the AAC hierarchy.
