MLB Power Rankings: Predicting the best free agent each team will sign
By Tim Boyle
25) MLB Power Rankings: Colorado Rockies sign Michael Conforto
This might be the sneakiest free agent signing on this week’s MLB Power Rankings.
The Colorado Rockies do the impossible and sign Michael Conforto. Remember him? Conforto went unsigned in 2022 but has proven himself as a capable big-league outfielder. The lost year should have Conforto willing to take a lesser deal. The Rockies can give him the perfect destination to bolster his numbers.
24) MLB Power Rankings: Detroit Tigers sign Joey Gallo
Speaking of someone who needs to bolster his numbers, Joey Gallo is a free agent this offseason. His destination will have him signing a short-term deal with the Detroit Tigers.
Detroit had a major power outage in 2022. Gallo, who will be looking to redeem himself, could give them what they were missing most. The Tigers could end up as a more aggressive team, however. Even then, don’t expect them to go too crazy in free agency.
23) MLB Power Rankings: Tampa Bay Rays sign Michael Lorenzen
Something about Michael Lorenzen feels perfect for the innovative Tampa Bay Rays. The lesser of the two-way players from Anaheim last year, Lorenzen is a guy the Rays can use in a couple of different ways. He won’t cost a ton either which is the most important factor when trying to predict what the Rays do in free agency.
22) MLB Power Rankings: Kansas City Royals sign Mike Clevinger
Mike Clevinger is going to need to rebuild his stock before any contender signs him. He missed all of 2021 and wasn’t so great in 2022. He seems like a decent fit for a Kansas City Royals team that will be in need of a veteran arm this offseason. They can probably sign him for pretty cheap and look to move him at the trade deadline if things work out.
21) MLB Power Rankings: Minnesota Twins sign Noah Syndergaard
The Minnesota Twins are going to need to sign some starting pitching this offseason. Why not Noah Syndergaard?
Syndergaard has bounced around with a couple of organizations in recent years. This was supposed to be a “prove it” campaign for him yet there is still some uncertainty. Because his future could have him pitching in the bullpen as well, the Twins would be wise to load up on starting pitcher options and go from there.
