MLB Power Rankings: Predicting the best free agent each team will sign
By Tim Boyle
20) MLB Power Rankings: Los Angeles Angels sign Craig Kimbrel
Admittedly, this is probably the most “out there” of the predictions in this week’s MLB Power Rankings.
Craig Kimbrel to the Los Angeles Angels doesn’t make sense. It’s precisely why it’s probably going to happen. Kimbrel proved he can’t be trusted in a big spot and the Angels, as long as they don’t trade Shohei Ohtani, should be looking to rebuild a bullpen they tore apart. Kimbrel can either shine with them or become another overpriced player they’ve made the mistake of signing.
19) MLB Power Rankings: Philadelphia Phillies sign Nathan Eovaldi
It’s pretty clear the Philadelphia Phillies need some more reliable arms for the rotation. Nathan Eovaldi, who has excelled in the postseason before, seems to fit in well as someone they can have behind Zack Wheeler and Aaron Nola next year. He’s coming off of an up-and-down season but could turn into the kind of experienced veteran arm missing from the club in 2022.
18) MLB Power Rankings: Seattle Mariners sign Brandon Drury
Look for the Seattle Mariners to be another one of those teams that can surprise us. Taking the safer bet, the prediction for their best free agent signing is Brandon Drury. The Mariners, if they do make a bigger splash, can always do it with a trade. Drury can help replace Adam Frazier and be a solid buy from them. His ability to play multiple positions and showcase of power this past season makes him an underrated target for Seattle and everyone else.
17) MLB Power Rankings: Chicago White Sox sign Josh Bell
Josh Bell’s free agency will be interesting to see. For this week’s MLB Power Rankings, the prediction lands him with the Chicago White Sox.
He’ll replace Jose Abreu on the roster (more on him later) while giving the White Sox a starting first baseman, occasional DH, and even less occasional corner outfielder. Bell is the kind of player that should not be overlooked in free agency.
16) MLB Power Rankings: Milwaukee Brewers sign David Robertson
The Milwaukee Brewers will give someone else a shot to close games for them or at least join what has in recent years been a strong bullpen. With Josh Hader gone, there should be some competition in the relief corps. David Robertson, on a short-term deal, is someone to add. The Brewers just missed the playoffs in 2022. What if they had more stability in relief? They could’ve been a contender.
