MLB Power Rankings: Predicting the best free agent each team will sign
By Tim Boyle
5) MLB Power Rankings: Texas Rangers sign Jacob deGrom
Prepare yourself to see the Texas Rangers be one of the more active teams this offseason that just finished off a below .500 campaign. The highlight of their winter will be the addition of Jacob deGrom. He wants to get paid and the number of years they have to commit to him won’t be too long. As an added bonus, let’s add one more big prediction. They also sign Clayton Kershaw.
4) MLB Power Rankings: Boston Red Sox re-sign Xander Bogaerts
The 2022 season was a disappointment for the Boston Red Sox. Those hoping to see Xander Bogaerts return will be delighted. Although he’ll opt out, the Red Sox will retain their long-time shortstop and look to slowly build up the roster around him. Bogaerts will have suitors elsewhere, but familiarity with Boston and the need for Chaim Bloom to field a contender will have the two sides coming to an agreement. Get used to second base, Trevor Story.
3) MLB Power Rankings: Baltimore Orioles sign Carlos Correa
It’s hard to imagine the Baltimore Orioles finishing so high on any MLB Power Rankings. The time has come. The ball club proved a lot this past season. The prediction their biggest free agent addition is a huge one. They’re going to end up with Carlos Correa. Suddenly, the Orioles are serious contenders.
Let’s go bolder. They make the postseason. Baseball is back in Baltimore and it goes beyond the addition of Correa.
2) MLB Power Rankings: San Francisco Giants sign Trea Turner
The San Francisco Giants will be in hot pursuit of Aaron Judge this winter. However, it’s Trea Turner they will end up with. It’s not a bad consolation prize. Turner might have to play second base for a year while Brandon Crawford finishes out the end of his contract. It won’t be a problem. The Giants are loading themselves slowly before they get back into serious contention again—something they should be able to accomplish very quickly.
1) MLB Power Rankings: New York Yankees re-sign Aaron Judge
The free agent prediction we’ve all been waiting for, where does Aaron Judge play? He plays with the New York Yankees. No one else.
The legacy he has built in New York is good for him and the franchise. You don’t let a guy hit 62 home runs and then walk away the next season. The Yankees need to be a little more clever this offseason than they have been in the past. Signing Judge isn’t so much smart as it is common sense. He re-signs with the team in the Bronx. The Empire Strikes Back.
