College Football Playoff rankings 2022: Projected Week 12 Top 25 after Washington upsets Oregon, Alabama survives Ole Miss, UCLA falls
Projected College Football Playoff rankings after Week 11: No. 20-16
20. Florida State Seminoles
When Florida State dropped to 4-3 on the season as the Noles lost their third straight on Oct. 15, everyone pretty easily moved them out of consciousness. But since then, Mike Norvell’s team has been beating the brakes off of some ACC have-nots, most recently blowing short-handed Syracuse out on Saturday. FSU has it rolling, though and a Week 1 win over LSU only boosts the resumé further.
19. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Honestly, it feels a little dirty moving the Fighting Irish up after Saturday’s performance. In the first half, Notre Dame just torched Navy as the offense started cooking and they couldn’t be touched. But after going up 35-13 in the first half, they got shut out in the second half and allowed Navy to find hope in what was ultimately a 35-32 win for the Irish. They benefit from others falling, but this wasn’t a confidence-builder in backers of this team.
18. UCLA Bruins
Well, that was certainly one that we didn’t see coming. Looking at the late slate for Week 11, it felt like the two ranked Pac-12 teams in UCLA and Utah were going to roll. The Utes did their part, but the Bruins could not. Arizona moved the ball consistently against a suspect defense and Dorian Thompson-Robinson just didn’t have enough answers (with little help from his weapons at times). That’s a haymaker landed on UCLA now as they drop precipitously.
17. UCF Knights
Each passing week makes UCF’s blowout loss at East Carolina continues to look more perplexing. But with John Rhys Plumlee returning at quarterback, the Knights made a huge statement by not just knocking off Tulane but doing so on the road. Gus Malzahn’s team has a lot of flaws defensively and can be inconsistent offensively. At their best, however, this is the best G5 team in America.
16. Kansas State Wildcats
For reasons I remain confused by, Baylor was actually the favorite at home against Kansas State on Saturday night. If you watched any of the game, though, the opposite played out. The Wildcats kept causing chaos in the Big 12 with Will Howard leading the way to a 31-3 win over the Bears in Waco. This is a three-loss team, which limits K-State’s ceiling. Even so, they continue to pile up big wins that work in their favor.
