2. MLB Power Rankings: New York Mets

As long as Steve Cohen owns the New York Mets, they should compete. The 2023 season is still an important one for them. Max Scherzer can opt-out after the year which just puts them back in a position to have a major need in the rotation yet again.

The Mets managed to win 101 games in 2022 yet settled for second place behind the Atlanta Braves because Brian Snitker’s club won 10 of 19 games against Buck Showalter’s group. It was a disappointing ending in the playoffs for the Mets. Going 1-2 in the postseason is unacceptable.

Missing out on the 2023 World Series isn’t the end for the Mets. They can regroup and compete again soon after. Because their veterans are still performing well, other core members are in their peak years, and they have some talented rookies like Francisco Alvarez in the mix, everything is coming together. They cannot exit early again.

1. MLB Power Rankings: New York Yankees

New York Yankees fans hold their team to high standards. Nobody is more desperate than they are to win the 2023 World Series. The Yankees are baseball. Somehow they haven’t even made it to the World Series since 2009 when they did manage to win it.

Believe it or not, there are middle schoolers who have never seen the Yankees win the World Series. It may sound ridiculous to fans of other teams like the Seattle Mariners. Seattle didn’t make this list because their fans just saw the team end a playoff drought. They can wait a little longer for a parade led by Julio Rodriguez.

Yankees fans, on the other hand, are putting pressure on the front office to make the right decisions. The 2023 season is going to be huge for them. Anything short of a World Series appearance is a failure. For some fans, anything aside from a World Series win is what constitutes as coming up short.
