Tua Tagovailoa proves he’s the polar opposite of Russell Wilson
Tua Tagovailoa and the Dolphins looked at what Russell Wilson and the Broncos offense has done this year and decided to do the opposite.
Former UCLA Rick Neuheisel famously coined the phrase, “Punting is winning.”
Tua Tagovailoa and the Dolphins do not ascribe to that philosophy.
Miami beat the Browns on Sunday, 39-17. They had zero punts on the day, keeping Thomas Morstead on the sideline for the entire game.
That’s pretty much the opposite of what Russell Wilson and the Broncos have done this season.
NFL Twitter noted this weekend that no one has punted more than Denver. Their 54 punts this year lead the league while Miami has booted just 31.
Tua Tagovailoa is keeping the Dolphins’ punter inactive
Of course, the Dolphins look perfectly happy to give Morstead very little to do. Even the punter celebrated the achievement.
Morstead has been active at times this season, booting six punts each in games against the Vikings and Steelers. However, he’s been extremely inactive in the last three weeks. The 36-year-old has had just two punts in that span facing the Lions, Bears and Browns.
It’s a testament to Tagovailoa and the entire Dolphins offense. They are second in the league in yards per play at 6.4 and third in scoring and first downs this year. And the lack of punting isn’t because they’re turning over the ball on the regular either. They have just 10 turnovers lost in 10 games.
Sitting atop the AFC East at 7-3, they’ll look to keep the good times rolling against the Texans in two weeks. With a bye week this week, Morstead definitely won’t be ripping off any punts this coming Sunday.
As for Wilson, he has a tall task in front of him to get the Broncos out of the bottom of the scoring charts with just 131 points on the season. Punter Corliss Waitman had a season-high 10 punts against the 49ers in Week 3 and just had nine punts against the Titans on Sunday.
