2. New York Mets

The New York Mets had one of the more active offseasons last year, when they signed starting pitcher Max Scherzer and outfielders Starling Marte and Mark Canha. While they did make the postseason, they did not have a long stay, as they were eliminated by the San Diego Padres in three games in the Wild Card Series.

Now, the Mets are in a position to further bolster their roster to make a deeper run in the playoffs, with hopes of making a run to the World Series for the first time since 2015.

The Mets do have a big name hitting free agency in Jacob deGrom, who could command a hefty contract this offseason. There’s the possibility that deGrom could sign elsewhere. If that’s the case, they should pivot to Verlander, who would be a great addition to the rotation to help fill the void left by deGrom.

With Steve Cohen as owner, you can’t rule the Mets out.
