Soccer fans bore witness to the first bad call of the World Cup 2022, and are calling out FIFA for rigging the event based on how horribly Ecuador was screwed over.

Has the World Cup actually started if we haven’t seen a bad call that makes everyone on Earth question FIFA?

As though it was part of the opening ceremony, the World Cup started on Sunday in Qatar with a questionable no-goal call against Ecuador in the first minutes of its match against the host country’s side.

FIFA literally couldn’t wait more than three minutes to wave off a goal and create controversy, while at the same time sending a loud message to soccer fans across the globe about how the World Cup is going to go.

Ecuador was the first country to get on the board at the World Cup with a rather spectacular goal — or so it seemed.

Here’s the goal, which at first glance looks like it’s good but we’ve since been conditioned by a number of different factors to not take such a thing at face value.

The goal went to a VAR check and was waved off by way of a belated offsides penalty. Fans were quick to lambast the officials and FIFA for the first of what will likely be many absolute trash calls throughout the World Cup.

FOX rules analyst tries to explain Ecuador offsides penalty

Machnik did his best to explain where officials saw the offsides penalty but didn’t hold back his own reservations that the call was a bit of a stretch.

“It’s a very strange offside decision, but one that happens when the goalkeeper comes off the line like that,” Machnik said on the broadcast.

As brutal as it was to wipe a goal off the board at the World Cup, Ecuador got the last laugh by scoring on a penalty kick a handful of minutes later.

Still, FIFA made its presence known in less time than it takes to brew a cup of coffee and let everyone know it’s going to be a long World Cup this year.
