What would a dream Astros starting lineup look like next year?

6. Dream Astros starting lineup: Jose Abreu bats sixth, 1B
Jose Abreu might not be the choice of every fan to play first base for the 2023 Astros. On a short-term plan, there aren’t too many better options for them. He has been one of the most consistent hitters at the position since joining MLB. In a lesser role than the one he had with the Chicago White Sox, perhaps he even finds his power stroke again.
Abreu in this dream lineup would be expected to do what he does best: drive in runs. Even last year when his power totals dropped, Abreu managed to produce. He hit over .300 and showed that in the right lineup he can thrive.
Hitting behind the lefty Tucker, Abreu gives this Houston lineup extra protection. He also breaks up a pair of lefties in the order. Hitting right behind him is another newcomer.
7. Dream Astros starting lineup: Andrew Benintendi bats seventh, LF
The Astros aren’t just signing Andrew Benintendi away from the New York Yankees to win against them in the offseason. He is actually a pretty good replacement for Michael Brantley. The biggest problem with Benintendi could be the unknown. Has his power also disappeared? He only hit 5 home runs all of last year but saw a substantial improvement to his batting average.
Benintendi is a good fit for the Astros who have plenty of pop already. He will also provide them with some good defense out in left field. It allows them to keep Alvarez at the DH spot.
Benintendi shouldn’t cost a ton in free agency. His age may even lead toward a shorter deal or one with an opt-out. Because this dream lineup is focused on repeating as champions in 2023, he’s a good buy.
