3 NFL coaches on the hot seat after Week 12: Lovie Smith, Texans

This past offseason, the Houston Texans fired David Culley after one season, and promoted Lovie Smith to be their head coach. This is his third head coaching stint in the NFL. He had his work cut out for him, considering the state of the roster.

On Sunday, the Texans faced the Miami Dolphins. Beating them and their electric offense was always going to be difficult. Smith tried to shake things up by benching a struggling quarterback in Davis Mills for Kyle Allen. The results? Still the same.

Houston put up a total of 32 yards of offense in the first half. Enough said. Miami scored all 30 of their points in the first half, and let their foot off the proverbial gas pedal. Houston was able to score 15 points in what was essentially a second half that was entirely garbage time.

The Texans are now 1-8-1 on the season following their 30-15 loss. Houston is in position to earn the first-overall pick by seasons end, and have their choice of which quarterback prospect to select come Apr. 27.

While the Texans weren’t expected to compete in 2022, that may not stop them from making a change. If there are coaching candidates that the organization feels can help turn them around, who’s to say they won’t move on from Smith after one year?
