College football coaching carousel: End of season changes (15)
Florida Atlantic Owls: Willie Taggart -> Tom Herman
After three seasons on the job in Boca Raton, Florida Atlantic decided it was time to part ways with an ineffective Willie Taggart. The former Oregon and Florida State head coach inherited a strong program from Lane Kiffin and pretty much ran it into the ground. He never won more than five games in a season, finishing his three-year run at Boca Raton with a 15-18 (11-11) record…
With Florida Atlantic being the first program to move on from its former head coach after the season had ended, the Owls were the first to hire their new one of that group. Yes, it will be former Houston and Texas head coach Tom Herman taking over in Boca Raton. Herman went 54-22 over six seasons between those two schools, going 5-0 in bowl games. He spent 2022 out of coaching.

Stanford Cardinal: David Shaw -> Troy Taylor
In the early hours of Nov. 27, longtime Stanford Cardinal head coach David Shaw decided he had enough. The former Cardinal wide receiver resigned after another down season for the program. Stanford went 3-9 in back-to-back seasons. While Shaw went 96-54 (65-40) in 12 seasons, Stanford has not won six games since winning nine back in 2018. He was never going to be fired…
It took a few weeks, but Stanford found its replacement for Shaw in Sacramento State head coach Troy Taylor. He went 30-8 in three seasons over four years leading the Hornets. Prior to having a great deal of success in the Big Sky, Taylor served as Kyle Whittingham’s offensive coordinator at Utah from 2017 to 2018. Interestingly enough, Taylor is a former quarterback from arch rival Cal.
Cincinnati Bearcats: Luke Fickell -> Scott Satterfield
With Luke Fickell leaving Cincinnati to take over at Wisconsin, the Bearcats ended up with one of the best openings in the country. UC is going Power Five next season once it joins the Big 12 alongside BYU, Houston and UCF. Special teams coordinator Kerry Coombs will serve as the Bearcats interim coach for their bowl game. UC did not play for an AAC Championship this season.
In a complete and utter shocker, Louisville head coach Scott Satterfield is leaving the ACC to go coach at a regional rival, now that the Bearcats are going Power Five. While the Cardinals largely stagnated under Satterfield, he did have Louisville going to a bowl game. UC may have a ton of positive momentum going for it, but Satterfield leaving U of L for Cincinnati is a total bombshell.
