Yankees rumors: 3 major roster holes to fix this offseason and what Brian Cashman should do

New York Yankees rumors: Start Oswald Peraza, mix in Isiah Kiner-Falefa
The Yankees shouldn’t make a big splash at shortstop this offseason. It’s a little disappointing, but they’ve dug in their heels already with a hope that Anthony Volpe becomes the answer. It’s not a bad plan. It will allow them to address other areas properly.
Until Volpe is ready, shortstop should belong to Oswald Peraza. This isn’t just to confuse casual fans with their outfield solution of Oswaldo Cabrera. Peraza looked very good in his 18 games with the team. Peraza slashed .306/.404/.429 in those 57 promising plate appearances.
Peraza at shortstop means Isiah Kiner-Falefa is out of a job. He can be a fit for the Yankees off the bench or as an alternative at shortstop if Peraza struggles.
It wouldn’t be a bad idea for the Yankees to even trade Kiner-Falefa. It depends on how the rest of the infield looks. They have a surplus of infielders already. Kiner-Falefa or Torres could be dealt. Both don’t need to remain on the roster.
The Yankees can get busy at other positions, too. They are a landing spot for any of the top free agent starting pitchers. Moving Domingo German to the bullpen or to another team is one option to clear out a spot. Surrendering Frankie Montas in a trade after his poor performance in 2022 is another.
Securing Judge and plugging these other holes are important for the Yankees to do more than get whipped in the postseason by the Houston Astros.
