The perfect West Coast NHL road trip

Calgary: Calgary Flames vs. Edmonton Oilers, Dec. 27

The Battle of Alberta, what else needs to be said? There’s no better place to start a trip than with the greatest rivalry in the NHL at the moment than the Saddledome for a barn-burner between the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers.

Hockey fans have been spoiled with the Battle of Alberta over the last several seasons, getting to see it over 10 times in the 2020-21 season with the North division, and an all-time classic playoff series last season. However, this is the third and final matchup between them this season, and if these two don’t find themselves in a playoff matchup in April, it could be the last one for at least 10 months.

Plus, the atmosphere for these matchups at the historic Scotiabank Saddledome is one of a kind. Any opportunity you can get to see this matchup is a must-take.

Seattle: Seattle Kraken vs. Calgary Flames, Dec. 28

There have been few surprises in the NHL this season greater than the Seattle Kraken in their sophomore season, so why not follow the Flames down past the border and go see the NHL’s newest franchise continue their unlikely playoff push?

Is there anything to not like about the Seattle Kraken right now? Who saw this team not only in the playoff picture, but battling for a top spot in the Western Conference in only year two of existence? On top of their impressive run, the Kraken at Climate Pledge Arena offers a unique experience as the newest franchise in the league, as well as being in the heart of Seattle for some great sightseeing before and afterward.

The atmosphere at Kraken games nowadays after their recent success is incredible and makes for a great follow-up to a Battle of Alberta treat from the night before.

San Jose: San Jose Sharks vs. Philadelphia Flyers, Dec. 29

Finish off the final leg of the NHL road trip heading down to California for some sun, and down to San Jose and SAP Center for a matchup between the San Jose Sharks and Philadelphia Flyers.

Even as the Sharks and Flyers struggle this season, it provides a great excuse to see the gorgeous SAP Center, and experience Erik Karlsson’s incredible resurgence season. Finishing the trip with some of the amazing sightseeing in San Jose is a great way to finish off, and a great excuse to get out of the cold for a little bit.
