Teams to watch closely during MLB Winter Meetings: Baltimore Orioles

There is perhaps no bigger wild card heading into the MLB Winter Meetings than the Baltimore Orioles. One of the most surprising stories of the 2022 season, the Orioles are in a position to contend for a spot in the postseason again in 2023.

Baltimore general manager Mike Elias has said, “Our objective this winter is to add to the major league roster for the purpose of getting into the playoffs. We think that this team is ready to, hopefully, incrementally take steps forward. We’re in win-now mode.”

But what does “win-now mode” really look like? Elias has also stated, “we’re not going to go from zero miles an hour to 60 miles an hour in one offseason,” so the Orioles could make a big splash or several small ones this winter.

The Orioles rotation could certainly use a veteran arm. Could that be a Chris Bassitt or Jameson Taillon? There are also plenty of ways that Baltimore could improve on the infield as well while making sure young talent like Gunnar Henderson gets everyday playing time.

Baltimore’s myriad of options and unknown true limit on spending make this a very interesting winter to watch in Birdland.
