Braves can ruin the Mets Jacob deGrom backup plan

After losing Jacob deGrom, the Mets have plenty of holes on the roster. Their rotation seems the most obvious, especially with Chris Bassitt also a free agent. With the money deGrom turned down, New York would be best-served to sign a few players at positions of need, rather than signing one top-tier pitcher and sitting on their hands the rest of free agency.

Carlos Rodon comes to mind, who the Mets have already been linked with after deGrom left. Rodon is a capable pitcher and will receive over $20 million per year, at the very least. As expensive as that sounds, it’s only half as much as deGrom signed for.

Atlanta’s rotation could use some work, even with Max Fried, Charlie Morton, Kyle Wright and Spencer Strider in tow. Any one of those pitchers could take a step back, and a veteran like Rodon serves as a stabilizing force which would give the Braves once of the best rotations in all of baseball.

The Braves were among the initial favorites to sign deGrom, as well, before he took his talents to Texas. By adding Rodon, Atlanta’s rotation issues will be solved and they take another key Mets target off the board.
