1. The Cardinals could trade with the Oakland Athletics for Sean Murphy

The Cardinals making a deal with the A’s for Sean Murphy has picked up the most steam recently as the organization has contemplated how they will replace Molina.

Murphy is 28 and is entering his first season of arbitration eligibility. In 2022, he hit .250/.332/.426 with an OPS of .758. The most intriguing aspect of Murphy’s game is his power. He hit a homer 454 feet in 2022 and had a max exit velocity of 114 mph. Imagine bringing that power regularly to Busch Stadium or the parks in the NL Central. And then adding his bat alongside Paul Goldschmidt, Nolan Arenado, and the Cardinals lineup.

It’s easy to see what draws Mozeliak’s eye to Murphy. It won’t be easy replacing the legend that is Molina, but Murphy has loads of potential and will likely keep improving. It would be fun to see him do so with the Cardinals.

The A’s may need pitching, which the Cardinals do have available. A deal involving Murphy and the Cardinals will likely receive a lot of talk this week.
