10. Week 5 College Basketball Power Rankings – Baylor Bears (LW: 7)

  • Record: 6-2
  • Last Week: Lost 96-70 at Marquette, Won 64-63 vs. No. 14 Gonzaga
  • This Week: Vs. Tarleton 12/6

Getting drubbed at Marquette was a bad look for the Bears but Baylor responded nicely by squeaking out a win over Gonzaga at the Samford Pentagon. This week won’t tell us much about Baylor as their only action comes in a buy game against Tarleton on Tuesday.

9. Week 5 College Basketball Power Rankings – Auburn Tigers (LW: HM)

  • Record: 8-0
  • Last Week: Won 93-66 vs. Colgate
  • This Week: Vs. Memphis 12/10

The Tigers deserve credit for winning all eight of their games but Bruce Pearl has put together a pillow-soft non-conference schedule with Auburn’s only notable win being a five-point home victory against Saint Louis. Saturday’s showdown against Memphis in Atlanta brings a much-needed step up in weight class for the Tigers and should provide a truer test of how good Auburn is.

8. Week 5 College Basketball Power Rankings – Tennesee Volunteers (LW: NR)

  • Record: 7-1
  • Last Week: Won 76-40 vs. McNeese, Won 94-40 vs. Alcorn State
  • This Week: Vs. Eastern Kentucky 12/7, Vs. Maryland 12/11

It was smooth sailing last week for Tennessee, which followed up its Battle 4 Atlantis victory by drubbing McNeese and Alcorn State at home. Sunday’s trip to Barclay’s Center to take on Maryland at the Hall of Fame Invitational has gotten much more interesting with the Terrapins off to a perfect 8-0 start under new head coach Kevin Willard.

7. Week 5 College Basketball Power Rankings – UConn Huskies (LW: HM)

  • Record: 9-0
  • Last Week: Won 74-64 vs. Oklahoma State
  • This Week: At Florida 12/7, Vs. Long Island University 12/10

Dan Hurley’s team keeps humming along with a perfect 9-0 record after defeating Oklahoma State in the Big East/Big 12 Battle. The Huskies finally play a true road game this week as they head to Gainesville to take on Florida on Wednesday night.

6. Week 5 College Basketball Power Rankings – Alabama Crimson Tide (LW: 10)

  • Record: 7-1
  • Last Week: Won 78-65 vs. South Dakota State
  • This Week: At No. 1 Houston 12/10

Alabama took it easy after participating in the Phil Knight Invitational, scheduling just one home game that they won by 13 over South Dakota State. This week is a huge one for the Crimson Tide as they hit the road for a showdown with top-ranked Houston on Saturday in a true litmus test of Alabama’s upside come March.
