3 Braves moves to make after losing Kenley Jansen to Red Sox
1. Braves might find an answer in LF with AJ Pollock
While there has been some chatter about a chance at redemption for Marcel Ozuna in the 2023 season, that’s not something that any fan wants to see, nor should they given his awful showing both on and off the field this past season with Atlanta. Moreover, Robbie Grossman is gone after this past season and Adam Duvall, who missed much of the year with injury, is also a free agent.
For such a strong roster, one thing that the Braves are lacking is a reliable option in left field, something that they were surely hoping Ozuna would be but that hasn’t panned out. Thus, one of the underrated keys for this offseason would be to find someone who could fill that void and potentially give Atlanta a more complete lineup, a scary thought for the rest of the National League.
AJ Pollock might fit the bill. He spent the 2022 season with the White Sox after an April trade but really saw a drop off in performance. After slashing .282/.337/.519 with 52 home runs and 51 doubles over 258 games and three years with the Dodgers, his line was a measly .245/.292/.389 in 138 games with Chicago.
At just 35 years old, though, there should still be quality miles left on the tires with Pollock and another change of scenery could help get him back on the road. Protecting him in this Braves lineup would make him a versatile and dangerous bat to go along with a solid and versatile outfield glove that would slot perfectly into what Atlanta is looking for.
