Phillies Rumors: 3 moves Dave Dombrowski needs make to keep up with Mets

3. Phillies can keep up with the Mets by signing every relief pitcher New York needs
The Mets have been busy. Their starting lineup has yet to change and the bullpen looks unfurnished. The Phillies can get away without making a Devers splash and instead focus on paying every reliever they can in free agency. This could force the Mets to get especially creative in finding solutions.
Pitchers like Andrew Chafin, Adam Ottavino, and Taylor Rogers are matches for both clubs. The Phillies won’t end up with all of them. Signing Ottavino and one of the two others would be a step in the right direction.
These two NL East rivals have already swapped a couple of players this offseason. Walker went to Philadelphia and David Robertson went north to Queens. As the Atlanta Braves sit silently and enjoy the praise they receive for locking up all of their young players early, the Phillies and Mets are actively seeking out improvements. We know this roster needs them. The bullpen is one aspect they cannot ignore.
One of the largest roster concerns for the Phillies right now is the state of the bullpen. They have signed Matt Strahm to start things off. Philadelphia needs much more.
There probably won’t be any major bidding war between these two at this point for a free agent other than a bullpen arm. Dombrowski should strike now or prepare to look up and see orange and blue all year in 2023.
