Packers path back to playoffs in 2023: Give in to Aaron Rodgers and bring in a No. 1 wide receiver

The Packers’ front office has inexplicably refused to acquire a No. 1 wideout for Rodgers ever since the controversial decision to part ways with Davante Adams. The position must be addressed via free agency even if Jordan Love is throwing passes for Green Bay next year.

In fairness to GM Brian Gutekunst, last year’s second-round pick Christian Watson has shown glimpses of becoming a quality starter as this season has chugged along. Even if he takes another big step forward for Green Bay next year, it’s still necessary to give him a teammate who can attract significant attention on the other side of the formation.

Ideally, the Packers could land a sure thing in free agency. The reality is that guy just doesn’t exist on the open market this offseason. That means Green Bay will either need to fill their void via a trade or the draft.

Landing someone like Quinten Johnson or Jordan Addison in Round 1 of the draft is the easiest way for Green Bay to accomplish this goal. The franchise has refused to draft a receiver during Day 1 of recent drafts but things should change this season.

Trade targets like Brandin Cooks or Denzel Mims should be viewed as imperfect fallback plans. It’s time for Green Bay to get serious about providing their quarterback with a No. 1 wideout. The Packers need to take a big swing at the position this offseason.
