3 moves Giants must make after losing out on Carlos Rodon

Giants should aim to sign J.D. Martinez
The Giants don’t have the worst lineup in the league, but it’s far from the best and they could certainly stand to improve it. Following the 2022 season, they had the eighth-worst batting average (.234), 15th-best on-base percentage (.315), 16th-best slugging percentage (.390) and 13th-best OPS (.705).
Martinez could be a solid designated hitter for the team this season if he’s able to perform to his potential. While he was a bit below his potential with the Red Sox this past season, hitting the most doubles in one season he ever has in his career (43), he’s still consistently maintained a good amount of power throughout each season.
Over his 12-season career, he’s slashed .288/.352/.520 for an OPS of .872. This past season, he slashed .274/.341/.448 for an OPS of .789, still above average despite not being his best.
He’s not quite as good as he once was, but if signed to a short-term deal, he could help the team while they need it and undergo roster construction.
He’s available and a solid designated hitter, and they could definitely utilize him until another chance to sign a star player comes up.
