3 moves the Cubs need to make after Dansby Swanson signing

No. 1: Sign OF Michael Conforto

When looking at Chicago’s outfield, it’s essentially set. They have Ian Happ at left field, free agent acquisition Cody Bellinger at center, and Seiya Suzuki at right. Even so, they should explore bringing in another player not just for depth, but to potentially have at-bat as designated hitter.

They already handed out a prove it deal to Bellinger, and they should do the same with Michael Conforto.

The former New York Mets outfielder has not played in a game since the 2021 season, as he had to undergo shoulder surgery prior to the start of this past campaign. Conforto played in 125 games in 2021, slashing .232/.344/.384 while posting 14 home runs, 55 RBI, and 94 hits. But in prior years, he was able to put up much better numbers while standing in the batter’s box.

MLB insider Jon Heyman noted in a recent New York Post column that the Cubs are linked to Conforto, alongside the Miami Marlins and Houston Astros.

It would be a wise move to bring in Conforto on a short-term deal to see what he can do. If he can put up numbers like he did in the 2017, 2018, and 2019 seasons, that could be a huge win for the Cubs.
