3 Cowboys to blame after overtime loss to Jaguars, No. 1: Kellen Moore, Offensive Coordinator

There needs to be blame placed on offensive coordinator and play caller Kellen Moore. Yes, he does deserve credit for the successes that Dallas’ offense has had this season. But what he did late in the fourth quarter is inexcusable.

The Cowboys defense was able to force Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence to fumble the football and regain possession with just over one minute remaining. The next sequence is something that Cowboys fans will bring up when discussing how they lost this game, as they had the chance to kill the clock and force the Jaguars to use all of their timeouts.

On first down, running back Ezekiel Elliott was tackled for a three-yard loss. Timeout Jaguars. Second down — three-yard run by Tony Pollard. Timeout Jaguars. Third down — Prescott attempts a deep pass to Noah Brown down the sideline which falls incomplete. No timeout called by Jaguars.

The play call was maddening. Dallas is in a position to pick up a victory. This play call felt like Moore and the Cowboys were going for style points. Sure enough, this allowed the Jaguars to have one more chance to force overtime. With just over one minute remaining, the Jaguars offense had a seven-play drive, and they used their final timeout to stop the clock and allow Patterson to make a 48-yard field goal to force overtime.

With this call by Moore, it gave the Jaguars life, and ultimately the win.
