Kenny Pickett could not have been happier for Mitch Trubisky to get the win on Sunday for the Pittsburgh Steelers over the Carolina Panthers.

Though we can pick apart Kenny Pickett’s game, we can never question how good of a teammate he is for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Pickett was unable to play for Pittsburgh in Week 15’s road game at the Carolina Panthers. Although it is not a season to remember for the Steelers, Pickett’s backup in Mitch Trubisky helped propel Pittsburgh to its sixth win of the season. It was a hard-fought battle in Charlotte, but one where the former North Carolina quarterback prevailed. The Steelers got the win alright, 24-16.

Once Pittsburgh recovered the onside kick, Pickett gave Trubisky a hug before victory formation.

It is in moments like these where Pickett can really win fans over. He may have been a first-round pick out of Pitt, but it was his leadership, his intangibles and him being the most pro-ready quarterback that had him as the first signal-caller coming off the board. Although he is the Steelers’ starter going forward, he did not seem to be concerned about Trubisky getting the win.

It may only be his first year as a professional, but this is 100 percent the way a franchise quarterback needs to conduct himself, even if things have been up-and-down for you personally and you are on the mend, so to speak. What you are seeing here is Pickett has taken a page out of the Trubisky playbook. His play got Trubisky benched, but he has always been a great teammate.

Ultimately, character may play a greater part in the Steelers getting this thing turned around in the wake of Ben Roethlisberger’s retirement. Yes, we would all love to have more talent on our roster than the other guys, but these sort of intangibles Pickett possesses beats talent when talent does not work hard. Pickett may not have a high ceiling, but he is a guy his teammates will play hard for.

In a transitional period for this proud franchise, these are the kind of moments you are looking for.
