3 reasons Eagles can still beat the Cowboys without Jalen Hurts
1. Another moment for Gardner Minshew Mania?
The Eagles took home their first Lombardi Trophy thanks to Nick Foles, one of the most successful backup quarterbacks of all time.
Foles proved that a team can win it all even without their starting quarterback, showing the world that the second-string quarterback can still lead a team to winning it all.
Afterwards, Foles headed to the Jacksonville Jaguars, but he was eventually out of a job due to sixth-round pick Gardner Minshew. “Minshew Mania” picked up after Minshew saw an impressive 2019 season, but he’s been unable to follow it up in the years since, playing as backup now in Philadelphia.
Still, it’s uplifting to know that the Eagles have a quarterback who can still make plays in Hurts’ absence. Through 14 games in his rookie season, Minshew saw 3,271 passing yards, 21 touchdowns, and six interceptions.
Last season, Minshew actually faced the Cowboys ahead of the playoffs, but it was no revival of his 2019 form. The Eagles lost 51-26, with Minshew throwing 19 of 33 for 186 yards and two touchdowns and an interception.
Perhaps the Eagles can take note from their late-season matchup last year, and perhaps Minshew can show Philadelphia that he can hold down the fort with Jalen Hurts injured.
