5. Week 7 College Basketball Power Rankings – Virginia Cavaliers (LW: 1)

  • Record: 8-1 (1-0 in ACC)
  • Last Week: Lost 69-61 vs. No. 5 Houston
  • This Week: At No. 25 Miami 12/20

The Cavaliers suffered their first loss of the season as they couldn’t outlast an angry Houston team looking to prove itself after a collapse against Alabama the week prior. Things won’t get easier for Virginia this week as they hit the road to take on a solid Miami team in conference play.

4. Week 7 College Basketball Power Rankings – Kansas Jayhawks (LW: 5)

  • Record: 10-1
  • Last Week: Won 84-62 vs. No. 14 Indiana
  • This Week: Vs. Harvard 12/22

Indiana is one of the best teams the Big Ten can offer and Kansas blew them out at Allen Fieldhouse as the Jayhawks appear ready to start the Big 12 gauntlet. One more non-conference matchup awaits as Harvard comes to Lawrence on Thursday night.

3. Week 7 College Basketball Power Rankings – Houston Cougars (LW: 7)

  • Record: 11-1
  • Last Week: Won 74-46 vs. North Carolina A&T, Won 69-61 at No. 2 Virginia
  • This Week: Vs. McNeese 12/21

Any questions about how good the Cougars are were resolved easily with a blowout win over North Carolina A&T and a gutty road win against previously-unbeaten Virginia on Saturday. Houston looks like a legitimate national title contender and should rack up plenty of wins in the American this season.

2. Week 7 College Basketball Power Rankings – UCONN Huskies (LW: 4)

  • Record: 12-0 (1-0 in Big East)
  • Last Week: Won 68-46 at Butler
  • This Week: Vs. Georgetown 12/20

The Huskies kicked off conference play with a blowout win at Butler as they are one of just a handful of undefeated teams left in the nation. The perfect run should continue this week as UCONN welcomes Georgetown, which hasn’t won a conference game in nearly two years, to town on Tuesday night.

1. Week 7 College Basketball Power Rankings – Purdue Boilermakers (LW: 2)

  • Record: 11-0 (2-0 in Big Ten)
  • Last Week: Won 69-61 vs. Davidson
  • This Week: Vs. New Orleans 12/21

The new top dog is Purdue, which won a neutral-site tilt against a solid Davidson team to improve to 11-0 on the season. The Boilermakers should remain undefeated through Christmas as they welcome New Orleans to Mackey Arena on Wednesday in a buy game.
