3. Mavericks might be ready to move on from Christian Wood already

The Mavericks maneuvered a trade with the Rockets to land Christian Wood this summer but he’s fallen out of favor with head coach Jason Kidd, has made just four starts and is averaging under 30.0 points per game. Wood is understandably frustrated and while the Mavericks haven’t actively looked for a trade for him yet, Haynes’ sources think it could just be a matter of time:

"“Rival teams have begun monitoring what the Dallas Mavericks intend to do with center Christian Wood. Dallas has yet to show any indication that he has been made available for a trade, but some teams believe that could change soon.”"

Wood will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season and if the Mavericks don’t trade him, they risk losing him for nothing, a possibility that seems increasingly unlikely the most frustrated he becomes about his minutes and his role. But he displayed excellent offensive chemistry with Doncic when he’s been on the court and his per-36 numbers — 22.7 points, 10.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.0 blocks, 38.7 percent on 5.4 3-point attempts — have to make him appealing to someone. Hello, Clippers?
