Top 5 Worst NFL Coaches, No. 5: Rich Kotite

The New York Jets always seem to get it wrong, and Jets fans like Rich Eisen can’t help but get greener in the face knowing something will always go wrong. That was the epitome of the Rich Kotite era. It was a short one, but one Jets fans will certainly hope to forget.

But this move was by far the worst in franchise history and arguably one of the league’s biggest blunders. Despite a winning record with the Eagles during his four years with Philly, Kotite left in 1994 after a 7-9 record despite a 7-2 start.

For two seasons in the Big Apple, Kotite was 4-28 (0.125), including the infamous “Fake Spike” by Dan Marino and the Miami Dolphins. Bill Parcells later saved the day when he arrived, but the Kotite era was a complete disaster.
