3 teams that should have offers ready for a Derek Carr trade, No. 1: New York Jets
It’s no secret that the New York Jets need to get the quarterback position right. The pressure is on, as they have a stacked roster that is playoff ready. The only thing holding them back is at quarterback position.
Zach Wilson was supposed to be the franchise’s long-term answer at the position, as they selected him second-overall out of BYU. He impressed in college and throughout the pre-draft process with his skillset. Yet, it hasn’t come together at the NFL level.
The Jets have benched Wilson twice this season due to poor play. The second occurrence happened during the team’s lackluster showing against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 16, where Jets fans at MetLife Stadium booed Wilson off the field whenever the offense stalled out. The offense is lifeless when Wilson is at quarterback. When it’s literally any other quarterback on the depth chart, they can move the team down the field. Whether it’s Mike White, Joe Flacco or practice squad quarterback Chase Streveler, it doesn’t matter.
According to FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer, the Jets have “lost all confidence” in Wilson, and they are expected to move on from him after the season.
The Jets can’t necessarily afford to bank on another rookie to bail them out. They have the pieces on both offense and defense to win now. When it comes to veteran options, Carr is among the best, especially on the trading block.
Whether it’s Carr or another signal caller, the Jets need to make sure that their next decision is the right one. They can’t afford to miss on another starting quarterback.
