Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. OF. Single-A. Kevin Alcantara. 2. 9. player

Kevin Alcantara is another international prospect with trade value for the Cubs

Of the top three prospects in the Cubs organization in 2022, the top three are all outfielders. That’s definitely not a bad problem to have as that’s one area where MLB ball clubs are always looking for talent and depth. At the same time, however, it’s worth noting that the club has Bellinger under contract for 2023, Ian Happ still under control, and signed Seiya Suzuki last offseason.

That could make at least some of the franchise’s top prospects at least relatively expendable for the right trade, one of which is Kevin Alcantara.

Alcantara spent the 2022 season in Single-A with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans and put his potential on display. He slashed .273/.360/.451 with 15 homers, 19 doubles, six triples, 85 RBI and 14 stolen bases. That’s a nice season from a player who just turned 20 years old in July.

The international signee came over to Chicago as part of the Anthony Rizzo trade from the Yankees. He’s lived up to his billing thus far as the 6-foot-6 outfielder has an immensely high ceiling given his already-present physical tools, power, and overall athleticism.

It would be hard to part with Alcantara given his upside. But if there is a move that requires him being dealt to make the Cubs more competitive right now, then that’s something that Chicago would definitely have to consider given that he’s still a ways away from contributing in the majors with his current age and experience level.
