The Green Bay Packers path to the NFC postseason just got much simpler thanks to the Washington Commanders in Week 17.

The Commanders lost to the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, a game they needed to win to ensure they control their own destiny for an NFC Wild Card spot.

Ron Rivera rolled the dice with Carson Wentz as his starting quarterback instead of Taylor Heinicke, and Riverboat Ron could come to regret that decision. Wentz threw three interceptions — including two in the first quarter — and Washington never really recovered.

Deshaun Watson threw three touchdown passes, and the Browns overcame a 7-3 halftime deficit thanks to savvy adjustments by head coach Kevin Stefanski.

With the Commanders win, things just got much simpler for the Green Bay Packers. Aaron Rodgers and Co. control their own destiny, but it won’t be easy.

Packers playoff scenario: Green Bay’s path got simpler

With two wins to close out the season, Green Bay will clinch a playoff berth for yet another year with Rodgers at the helm. It will be the third straight since Matt LaFleur took over as head coach.

While Rodgers has looked like disheveled version of himself at times this season, he’s fared much better these past few weeks. Rodgers never panics in Green Bay — it is his slogan after all — and the Packers now have two straight games to save their season, and perhaps make some noise in the postseason.

Green Bay had to adjust on the fly without Davante Adams to start the season. The chasm between the front office and on-field product was never more evident considering it was Brian Gutekunst’s decision to trade Adams in the first place, rather than pay him what he’s worth. The Packers rookie wide receivers have come alive late in the year, namely Christian Watson and more.

Week 17 is far from over, though. The Pack must defeat the Vikings at Lambeau Field if they wish to control their own destiny next week.
