Grading the Steelers 2020 NFL Draft
Grading Steelers 2020 second-round pick: WR Chase Claypool – A
After selecting him with the 49th overall pick, Claypool topped 800 receiving yards in each of his first two seasons. This season, the Steelers traded Claypool to the Chicago Bears for a 2023 second-round pick. Right now, that pick is projected to be 34th overall. The trade return boosts this grade to an A.
Grading Steelers 2020 third-round pick: LB Alex Highsmith – A+
Highsmith has proved to be a steal. This season, he has 12.0 sacks and a league-leading five forced fumbles. The 25-year-old projects to be a high-level player for years to come.
Grading Steelers 2020 fourth-round pick: RB Anthony McFarland Jr. – C-
For his career, McFarland has 42 carries for 146 yards. He is currently on the practice squad.
Grading Steelers 2020 fourth-round pick: G Kevin Dotson – A-
Disclosure: I was a big fan of this pick at the time. In 2019, Dotson was PFF’s highest-graded guard in college football. Dotson has not quite hit that level, but he has been a nice value for a fourth-round pick.
Dotson has been excellent in pass protection, but inconsistency has plagued him as a run blocker. Still, he has started 28 games for the franchise, since his selection.
Furthermore, zero Pro Bowlers were selected on Day 3 of the draft. So, the Steelers did not pass on any elite talent.
Grading Steelers 2020 sixth-round pick: S Antoine Brooks Jr. – C-
Brooks appeared in four games for Pittsburgh. He played only 29 total offensive snaps.
He played in eight games for the Los Angeles Rams last season.
Grading Steelers 2020 seventh-round pick: DT Carlos Davis – B
Davis is currently on the practice squad. He has appeared in 12 games recording 12 combined tackles, three tackles for loss, and one sack.
