Carlos Correa’s Instagram story could hint at a major update
By Mark Powell
Could Carlos Correa finally be signing with the New York Mets this week? His Instagram story sent fans into a frenzy.
It’s been weeks since the Giants and Carlos Correa reneged on their lucrative contract thanks to issues with Correa’s physical. Shortly thereafter, Correa signed with the New York Mets, only to run into a similar problem.
Rather than re-testing the free-agent market again, Correa and New York have remained persistent in their attempt to get a deal done. Correa’s camp does not want a restructured contract, while the Mets likely want some insurance in the deal. It’s a race to see who blinks first — Scott Boras or Steve Cohen.
Carlos Correa’s Instagram story hints at potential Mets news
Carlos Correa posted an Instagram story with his son, who is wearing a New York-themed shirt. Is it a sign of things to come?
Surely, this has to mean something, right? Athletes know how important their social media posts are, so much so that many hire advisors for just this scenario.
Steve Cohen commented openly on New York’s negotiations with Correa a few weeks ago. He doesn’t want to look foolish. Scott Boras and Correa, meanwhile, would be on to their third team in just as many weeks if a contract doesn’t get done. That doesn’t seem ideal either.
What’s the holdup with Mets, Carlos Correa
The issue with any Mets-Carlos Correa contract appears to be his physical. Correa suffered a serious leg injury during his time in the minor leagues with the Houston Astros. Because of this, a metal plate had to be inserted into his leg via surgery. Both the Giants and now New York are reportedly concerned about Correa’s longevity.
Considering said contract would be for over a decade, it’s tough to blame New York for doing their due diligence.
