3 New England Patriots who won’t be back for the 2023 season
Devin McCourty
Safety Devin McCourty is another long-time Patriot who could hang up his cleats this offseason.
In his 13th season, all with New England, he started 16 games and had four interceptions. His fourth came in the finale against the Bills and made sure the Patriots went into the half tied 14-14. Along with the INT, McCourty had five tackles and two pass breakups.
So it’s pretty clear McCourty can still make plays, but he is 35 years old. He’d be 36 by the start of the 2023 season. And he’s played a lot of football, appearing in 204 games for the Patriots.
He too faced questions about his potential retirement after New England’s loss but indicated he hasn’t decided his future.
McCourty considered retirement last offseason but signed a one-year deal to return for 2022. He started doing broadcast work with CBS during the Patriots’ bye week, so the potential to retire and take a TV gig is certainly strong.
The signs point to McCourty saying goodbye to the Patriots, but it won’t be official until he says the word.
