Will the Cleveland Browns dare retain Joe Woods?

Cleveland took a pretty huge step back defensively this season, and something has to be done to ensure all that talent doesn’t go to waste. While the players — namely, Clowney and more — deserve some blame for this, in the end it’s on the system. Woods is far more expandable than, say, Myles Garrett.

Kevin Stefanski wouldn’t commit to any staff changes after Week 18’s loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He also didn’t commit to keeping Joe Woods, either.

“I’m not going to go there…” Stefanski said.

A poor Week 18 defensive showing for Woods didn’t help matters. Matt Canada’s offense isn’t exactly one of the best in the league, and the Steelers feature a rookie quarterback as well. Just by looking at the names on the back of the Browns jerseys, one would expect better overall numbers. Something isn’t clicking, and Sunday may have cemented Woods’ fate.

According to Brad Stainbrook of The OBR, Woods and the Browns were aware this was his final game prior to taking the field on Sunday. Even if that decision weren’t made already, it is now.

Good riddance.
