25) MLB Power Rankings: Los Angeles Angels should resolve to make the postseason

The disrespect! After all of the moves the Los Angeles Angels have made, for their New Year’s Resolution of making the playoffs to be ranked this low is a travesty. Better Angels teams have come up short. Guys like Hunter Renfroe and Tyler Anderson should help improve them. The American League will be too tough and so will the AL West for the Angels to reach this goal. Thankfully, they can always look back at the Athletics.

24) MLB Power Rankings: Pittsburgh Pirates should resolve to trade Bryan Reynolds for a ransom

A Pittsburgh Pirates trade involving Bryan Reynolds will be the talk of the rest of this offseason and revisited at the trade deadline when it’s clear they won’t make the postseason. Pittsburgh has gotten better. This just isn’t their year. While he’s a hot commodity, trading Reynolds for a ransom is a must for the Pirates.

23) MLB Power Rankings: San Francisco Giants should resolve to make smart trade deadline decisions

Nobody earned more consolation prizes this offseason than the San Francisco Giants. They lost out on several big free agents, Aaron Judge and Carlos Correa being the most significant. Their big folly last season was not selling Joc Pederson or Carlos Rodon at the trade deadline. We should have little faith this team will be any better in 2023. Properly addressing the trade deadline is their New Year’s Resolution.

22) MLB Power Rankings: Boston Red Sox should resolve to overachieve

If this week’s MLB Power Rankings involved handing out kudos, the Boston Red Sox would get one for extending Rafael Devers. He was going to be on their lackluster roster regardless of the extension. It will help them in the future. For now, their New Year’s Resolution is to overachieve. Justin Turner, Kenley Jansen, and other outdated additions they made need to have better years than projected. Otherwise, the Red Sox will find they spent a lot of money with little return.

21) MLB Power Rankings: Kansas City Royals should resolve to stick with the plan

One of the game’s most lost organizations, the Kansas City Royals need to stick with the plan. They didn’t unwisely buy free agents this offseason like the Red Sox. They seem to know what they are. It’s a good thing. As a smaller market club, all they really can do is wait for the youngsters to all get really good at the same time. It worked in 2015. Let’s give them until 2025 to see if it will all come together.
